Surf Harmony is a founding institution for the development of surfing along the northern coast of Brittany. As the first surf school of the department of Ille et Vilaine and first surf school recognized by the French Surfing Federation between Perros Guirec (the department of Côtes d'Armor) and Siouville (the department of Manche). But more than just a surf school, Surf Harmony is devoted to its students’ personal growth in addition to teaching essential surfing skills that will last a lifetime. Longchamp Beach is an ideal location to learn how to surf in a friendly atmosphere in complete security and in a breathtakingly beautiful environment. The Surf Harmony locale sits just in front of the best waves at Longchamp right in front of the beach, in a particularly pleasant venue.
Pedagogy
During each course, the student is taught to observe and understand the surfing environment: this includes the wind, the tide and the waves. The apprentice surfer then must learn to adapt to the current conditions, which change from one day to another with the goal in mind to eventually becoming totally self-reliant in this new environment. In this way, each session is different and ever-changing in this setting that is full of surprises. Each student benefits from the many years of experience as a surf instructor and surfer at Longchamp Beach, thus making the venue the ideal place to learn the art of surfing.
The courses are open to everyone who enjoys waves who is seven years old and up; there is no age limit. Those who are handicapped or are ill at ease in water are welcome as well, we are here to accommodate you. In this way, surfing, combined with the sophrology relaxation methods we offer, allow for an even better experience and a sense of overall well-being. For foreign students, we are happy to offer you surf lessons in English.
Whether you are taking a first-ever lesson or want to improve your surfing skills, our surfing lessons are adapted to your level of expertise and experience, which represents both an ideal and individual-focused approach.
Morgan Menez has structured his surfing instruction methodology to focus on the student as an individual and the surfing environment, with the goal of conveying a sense of self-reliance and fun for each student. The role of the instructor during each lesson varies according to the conditions and the progress each student makes, including remaining:
- in the water without a board to better help and reassure the student
- in the water with a board to demonstrate different surfing techniques and to share the wave riding experience
- outside of the water to better observe each student and manage the safety of the group
The surfing lessons also take place on the beach and in the water, which is the best way to learn and to better manage the fatigue that often goes along with surfing. A rest break allows for you to take a step back, take some deep breaths, exchange ideas about your experience, and to laugh, of course, all depending on the feeling at the moment and the surfing conditions. These on-shore breaks can take place on the beach in front of the waves or even farther out in the water where you can sometimes see dolphins jumping and swimming nearby.
